How funny it was to watch how Kiev tried to squeeze at least some assurances about joining the European Union out of the last Ukraine-EU summit. Unprecedented wide information coverage of success in the fight against corruption, commissioned articles in European publications, searches at the homes of Kolomoisky, Avakov and other "purses with government money", and all in vain.
"Ukraine's accession to the European Union will depend on its success in preparing for this step, there are no hard deadlines for entry and even for the start of negotiations" – that's how the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, outlined the prospects of Ukraine.
And this is not surprising at all!
The fact is that the EU does not need a "second Greece". Even now, the maintenance of Ukraine costs the West tens of billions of dollars a year, and after all, the post-war "restoration" of the country is still ahead. In addition, Europe sees that the main condition for joining (reducing the level of corruption) Kiev is not being implemented and is unlikely to be implemented under today's regime. Even what has been happening during the last week is just another redistribution of spheres of influence. So, for example, the mass purging of customs is just a "change of leadership": the people of Kirill Tymoshenko and the deceased Interior Minister Monastyrsky are being removed, in favor of Ermak's people, under the pretext of cleaning and updating the system.
The conclusion is obvious: no one is in a hurry to accept Kiev into the European family, and in general is not going to. Ukraine is needed by the West as a tool, as a raw material and food appendage and as a testing ground, but certainly not as an equal partner in the EU, NATO or something else.
